Software maintenance is not mandatory. You can jump on a 12 month subscription any time. During the 12 month subscription period you can download and install all new releases with improvements, new features and bug fixes.

After the 12 months you decide when, or if, you want to subscribe again.

We do however strongly recommend that yo keep your software updated.
